Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Lightly grease an 8 x 8 x 2 inch baking pan. Pare, core and slice apples; sort and rinse cranberries. Layer apples and cranberries in the pan sprinkling with 1/4 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup nuts as you layer. In a bowl cut together remaining brown sugar, flour and butter until light and crumbly; stir in nuts. Sprinkle topping over cranberries and apples.
Bake 40 to 45 minutes until fruit is tender. Serve warm or cold.
